The territory of San Valentino consists of rock formations, formed between the Lower Pliocene and the Middle Miocene (14-4 million years ago), typical of the Majella area.
The ancient name of San Valentino, Castrum Petrae, testifies to the presence in its territory of numerous and "monumental" outcrops of rocks made up of geological units defined as well-cemented polygenic limestone conglomerates.
"Lu candune" of San Nicola, so called in popular language due to its location next to the church and the convent of the same name, was used and was part of the same Augustinian complex.  Renovated in recent years, today it has become a magnificent "belvedere" from which you can enjoy an extraordinary "profile" of the town and the peaks of the Majella.

Lilies of San Nicola

Along the cracks in the rocks and in the spaces left free, the so-called Lily of San Nicola grows, a very fragrant, spontaneous white lily of the species lilium candidum, native to Asia Minor, very resistant and widespread in southern Italy. It has pure white flowers and is considered in the Christian religion as a symbol of purity. "Lily of purity" is the invocation addressed in prayers to San Nicola da Tolentino.  "But he always carried the pure white lily as the noble emblem of his purity and virginity, which is the second virtue of the Angels."
