Facade of the historic cathedral in Abruzzo

DO YOU KNOW THE

Cathedral of San Valentino

It stands on the site of a previous church. It is located in the highest part of the town, in the place where the bodies of Saints Valentine, bishop of Terracina, and his deacon Damian (4th century), who were martyred and buried in the Zappino area, were transferred. A mention of an “Ecclesia Sancti Valentini” appears in 1324, in the Rationes decimarum. The beginning of the construction of the current Cathedral dates back to 1770, based on a design by engineers of the Royal House (Bourbon). The attribution to Luigi Vanvitelli has not been documented.

CONTRADA ORO

The gold of Valentine's Day

Silvio De Luca and Silvio Pascetta present us with the "gold of San Valentino," gypsum and its quarries, which have provided and still provide work for the people of San Valentino. Footage shot in the Trovigliano district and in the Gesseto area (San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore, Pescara) between October and December 2015

THE GENTLE STRENGTH

Man, material and work in San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore

An autumn in the community of San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore, a village in the Apennines nestled between the Maiella and Morrone massifs, in search of memory, emotions, meanings, and projections into the future.
From the end of September to the end of December 2015, we met and spent time with about ten "privileged witnesses" of San Valentino culture: not only elderly people, but more broadly people with experience and a deep connection to the territory.
