This church “ngim’alla culline cinte de caggiaspin’e rrambecande”, as described by the poet Giuseppe Tontodonati in the poem “Sande Rocche”, shows the simplicity of country churches, extra moenia, outside the walls, with a single entrance with square windows and a small side bell tower. It is consecrated to the worship of Saint Roch and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The linear facade with a gabled end is interrupted by a refined rose window in the entrance portal carved from the white stone of the Majella, which filters the sun's rays inside. Created by the master stonemason Armando De Sanctis in 2011, it inspired the jewel “the Light of Saint Roch”. The church probably dates back to the 16th century. There is no certain information, but there is a record from pastoral visits between 1586 and 1587 that urged the completion of the works.
INSIDE:
MADONNA OF CONSTANTINOPLE (OR OF MOUNT CARMEL) crowned by angels, with Saints Elijah and Elisha and the souls in purgatory. Oil on canvas, by an anonymous author, dating to the early 17th century. The two figures of prophets are placed together for hagiographic reasons, as Elisha, according to the biblical account, became a disciple of Elijah.
TOMBS OF VALENTINO ROTONDO (Mayor 1808-1870) AND BENIAMINO IACOBUCCI (Archpriest 1799-1873).

Around 1500 it was built as a landmark for the rural and pastoral population in transit, then it was used as a shelter for plague victims. Over the years the altar was destroyed. Perhaps no one thought how important this place could become for the people of San Valentino and for tourists in 2019. So much so that it was restored and a jewel in silver and gold was dedicated to it.
BUT HAS IT ALWAYS BEEN THIS WAY? NO
It was 2008 when 10 people from San Valentino formed the Pro San Rocco Committee, whose goal was to restore a little church abandoned to itself and closed to worship. The Committee, the ideas and the projects kept growing. And after months and then years, they succeeded in their aim. A place abandoned by time and by the Church regained its splendor and life.

In 2019, the church of San Rocco shines thanks to the work of the committee. It is a destination for tourists and a place for wedding celebrations. The exterior is set up with stone paving, the altar, the rose window, and the Via Crucis have been restored, and the lawn in front is always green and lush.
In 2017, the passion of a woman from San Valentino, Alessandra, drove her to work on something unforgettable for San Rocco and for San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore. Thus, the "Light of San Rocco" was born. A unique jewel of its kind, designed and created inspired by the rose window made of white Majella stone. Handcrafted, the jewel is available in silver and gold, to be worn around the neck or wrist.
